Albuquerque's Free Outdoor Fitness Center

Introduced with little fanfare, few people realize there’s a HealthBeat™ trail of fitness equipment in the green space of Tiguex Park.
Part of the city’s Prescription Trails Program, but clearly innovative, these 9 pieces of equipment are comparable to what would be found in a gym, only at Tiguex it’s free, outdoors, and open 24/7.

Colored a cheery green and very sturdy, the equipment is simple to operate and each piece comes with a diagram to help guide new users. Try the cardiostepper, do squat presses, even mediate and exercise with the Tai Chi wheel. Several stations allows users to set the level of resistance while other pieces adjust automatically.

There’s a full program along the circuit, and users can download a HealthBeat User Guide on ways to use the equipment most effectively, and how to create a personalized exercise program.

Doing the circuit is fun when it’s outside with the trees and the blue sky.

For ages 13 and over.
